Coca-Cola: 24hr Live Session

Coca-Cola asked W+K to develop a digital component to accompany their already-booked “24hr session” with Maroon 5. Working with W+K’s global interactive ECD, I turned the initial concept - for live interactions via Twitter through a physical UI - into a buildable system, allowing the band to communicate and interact live with their fans during the event.

From the basic idea, I created an overall system design and architecture. I directed and co-ordinated its implementation with 4 external partners, including specialist interactive developers alongside Coke’s lead digital agency and internal IT department.

I managed the W+K dev team to build a content ingestion and moderation tool, contributed code and organised its cloud VPS hosting system, and built by hand a custom cache system to ensure all content and media was delivered locally to the interactive Kinect/UI/projection system - which was developed by specialist partners using openFrameworks and a bunch of custom oF modules & shaders. I worked extensively with W+K and Coke’s legal teams to enable the custom openFrameworks software to be open source-licensed, as per the specialist partner’s wishes, and in keeping with the spirit of the oF community.

Finally, I stayed up all night to keep a watchful eye over it while the musicians did their thing: practicing, practicing, recording and producing a single track in the fixed 24-hour period. I really hope I never have to hear that track again.
