Daily news iPhone app
The Guardian's iPhone App was the organisation's first foray into native mobile news. We decided to partner with an external iOS development company, whom I assessed and helped select. I managed multiple software delivery tracks to co-ordinate multiple projects; for the first release, the internal platform team created custom, app-specific JSON APIs in advance of the on the existing Guardian application infrastructure, while later versions would use the subsequently completed Open Platform APIs.

Together, the product manager and I made this app happen. I directed and co-ordinated both the Guardian tech teams and the iOS company's developers; worked extensively with the design and product teams to develop the UI and interaction designs of the app, including custom navigation elements praised by Apple; and, critically, negotiated and organised with internal editorial, rights and legal departments to ensure a tidy delivery.

The product was featured as the leading UK news app in various Apple iOS/iPhone marketing materials, shortlisted for a British Press Award in the Digital Innovation category, and hit 100k paid downloads from the Apple App Store in 2 months.
