Eyewitness iPad App

The Guardian Eyewitness app for iPad showcases the world's most striking and beautiful photographs, providing a daily, visual reflection of global events.

It was originally conceived as a way to capitalise on the Guardian's relationship with Apple by making a simple, elegant app which would be available for download at the first iPad launch - at which Steve Jobs took a moment to point out what a "cool app" it was.

I worked as part of a 4-person, cross-functional team within the Guardian who developed the idea into a product. On top of that I hired and managed an iOS engineer to build it, organised with the business team to garner commercial sponsorship by Canon, and worked with the internal technology and editorial teams to create the necessary content endpoint APIs.
